By definition, all "theories" are attempts to answer a question or resolve a problem. Simulation theory answers several questions, as mentioned in my article. (It can account for the lack of alien life and the physical laws of our universe.)
The same goes for religion, or as you call it, the "god made everything" theory. A Creator can account for consciousness and an alternative to spontaneous generation.
Of course, they are both theories. Proving either one would be hard, if not impossible.
But, while people could "spend their time thinking about things that really matter," I think it's perfectly acceptable to be curious about our place in the universe. 😊
